Taking Sides: Should Netanyahu Avoid Reps?

Sir, - Nathan Diament, director of public policy for the Orthodox Union (OU), is to be commended for his sensitive and thoughtful remarks related to the forthcoming presidential elections in the United States, and for his rightfully stressing the need for Israel's leaders not to play into partisan politics.

While the need for bi-partisan support for Israel is obvious, Diament goes on to suggest that Netanyahu avoid meeting with Republican presidential candidates during his upcoming trip to Washington "so as not to be perceived as taking sides in the campaign".

I beg to differ! I submit that if our Prime Minister does not meet with the Republican hopefuls, while he has several highly publicized meetings with Pres. Obama, it will be perceived by many as a most definite taking of sides in the campaign.
